Thanks, you two! I really appreciate that

I was originally going to put more detail into the armor, but then I lazed out -___- I'm in this weird B/W with splash of color kick (like B/W photos with some color), so I'm planning on doing Pery's in a similar style I actually like painting in B/W a lot more than color and it makes my comp much more happier running PS (using max 2 layers with B/W instead of min 50-60 when I do color!).

Pery, here's my base sketch that I'll be painting over (B/W with color only on rose). I wasn't sure how big you were envisioning her Norn, so let me know if you want his hand bigger or smaller (also if there's anything else you'd like me to change!). I just have that little caption there, because that spot felt empty and I couldn't think of anything else to put in there XD That's just there now to amuse me and won't be in the final pic :P

edit: just noticed her name is Cassia, not Cassie D: I fail at reading, but yay for erasers and rename file options!

Looking good! And hehe, don't worry about the name. She looks so cuuuuuute. <3

Cassia is very petite, she's the smallest height available for Dervish. So Norn tend to tower over her.... still, I think that hand size is good, you could perhaps make it a touch bigger if you wanted to.

Oooh, grayscale sounds fun. :3 Even for colour, I find it's easier to use less layers. I used to use around 50-100 layers too, but for the past two years I've been limiting myself more and more, and now I work with only around 10 layers (main layers being background, lineart, base colour, skin, hair, clothes and extra detail). I draw things on a new layer, and then if I'm happy with how the changes look, I merge them with my corresponding main layer.

That sketch is soo cute!

Oh gosh, layers yes. Don't worry though as you go along you'll get more confident and use less of them. I tend to merge layers now and paint on top of it (with a new layer) at the rendering stage. Then merge them again. Rinse and repeat. I just duplicate the original sketch and make it invisible in case I need to refer to it later.

I just make sure I keep the background and foreground on a separate layers so I can move them around and stuff.

Hehe, so is my Dervish. One of my favorite screencaps I've taken (a loooooong time ago) - Farai is actually shorter than a Dwarf. She's even tinier than my Monk and Assassin! XD

Your monk is not the smallest character!? Impossible!

Thanks all! I'm sure when I'm feeling more confident, I'll start reducing those layers down XD I won't even go into how many 'invisible' (backup) layers I use! Towards the end of Verene's pic, it would definitely take PS a while to load the pic XD!

Lol, Verene, I have to check my monk's size against a dwarf, too XD I thought my mini-monk was the tiniest! I had her standing next to a male warrior the other day, and she looked so teeny-tiny!

I want to do one of those WiP collage things but I started kinda late so there isn't much difference between my first WiP and my second WiP D: I only have 3 wips so far for just the face so I'm guessing this will be HUGE at the end (or all the WiPs really tiny D: )

edit: also removed my commissions prefix since I'm not taking any new ones for a while.

Awwwwwwh! She looks so cute. :3 So adorable. I really like how you're doing her hair, it has wonderful detail to it.

Can't wait to see more.

Cute! I love the way you draw faces, her expression is awesome.

(also, if her hair and eye color are accurate in that, Cassia has to be my Dervish's sister or something XD)

I actually created her to be the sister of my brother's dervish, who has the same skin colour and hair style. I guess one more sister wouldn't hurt. XD

I agree, your handwriting is lovely - and o my, you have progressed so quickly! I'm jealous of your progress. xD

As requested, I have pulled up my refs. Would you mind drawing my dear Mesmer, Drelias, please? Here is the overview and the hair and face. She carries a single red rose. I'd prefer if her hair was like that in the face references, but still with the top hat. Whichever you'd prefer is fine, though.

I won't bore you with the history (I'm recalling now that it was a bit long and unrefined) of her, but I see her as being a bit circus-themed, definitely a performer. She's confident, maybe a bit too confident at times. She loves to travel.
You have full artistic freedom. Again, thank you!

lol, thanks all I'm trying something new with drawing hair, so I'm glad to hear it's working out I was also trying to go for an amused-and-delighted-but-trying-not-to-let-him-know-that expression XD

I never thought of my handwriting as gorgeous... I always felt bad for my undergrads back when I was a class grader since they had to read and figure out what I was trying to say XD Thanks though!

Thanks for the screenies Drelias! She's so cute, and I think I have an idea already I'm going to work on yours and Pery's while working on Raven's workshop, so it might be a while until I'm done, but I'll have lots of WiPs I'm going for a WiPs collage on this one, too

Definitely got the expression you were going for. xD It works.
The handwriting reminds me of my late grandmother's - I always thought she had the most beautiful handwriting, and it's rare to see anything similar... ^^;

As for my mesmer - thank you! Take as long as you need. ^^

Well, since the title of my post implies both drawings and stories, here's a story WiP Actually, it's the next chapter in my Wintersday story and I'm making it kind of a 'sneak-peek' into Part 2 for those interested in finishing the entire story XD I just finished writing this draft so sorry it's rough and probably filled with typos galore

Here's the Halloween story (makes the wintersday story more fun if you read it first).

Here's part 1 of the Wintersday story: An Unbreakable Bond: Part 1

WARNING: Part 1 is supposed to be light-hearted and fun. Part 2 takes a drastic turn, and if you don't like the idea of people being hurt or any kind of gore, then just pretend part 1 ended with "the end" instead of "to be continued." If you read my WiPs in the Wintersday workshop thread, I mentioned that when I saw the ending in my head, it made me hysterically start crying. So... warning has been given If you tend to care about story characters and you care about mine, you're in for a rough ride in part 2...
